Sheffield Wednesday vs Portsmouth

Sheffield Wednesday kick off the season with a cracking 3 – 3 draw at home to Portsmouth.  Dele-Bashiru hit two screamers to secure a draw in a well-matched game.

Wednesday took the lead early on when Johnson hit the back of the net on 8 minutes but the game came to life in the second half with five goals, with 4 goals coming in a crazy 10 minutes when the game was end to end. Wednesday took a 2-1 lead but Portsmouth pulled the game back to 2-2, then took the lead to make it 2-3 – at this point, I think we were all thinking, same old Wednesday, due to the many points we dropped last season from winning positions.

It’s very early days, so I am not getting carried away with how the games was played or how each played did. It’s a new season, we some new players, and coming off a bad pre-season, a draw at home to Portsmouth will do, it’s points on the board from day one!

Of course, there is loads of work to be done, we can’t let in 3 goals every game because there is no way we will score 3 goals every game. We haven’t had a striker that can score 20+ goals a season in the squad for a VERY long time and from the players, we have now, I can’t put my finger on one for this season! The goals from Portsmouth were not anything great, some pretty poor defending from Wednesday was to blame for all 3 goals, to be honest BUT that’s Wednesday, there aren’t many games when we keep a clean sheet!
